Melbourne Job Market Update: October 2018

As 2018 draws to a close, you may be starting to consider transitioning down a new career path, but perhaps questioning if now is the right time.  Current reports would have you believe it’s shaky territory out there within the areas of Property, Construction and Engineering, including:

  • House prices falling across Australia 12 months in a row
  • Chinese investment in Australia down 40% over post year
  • Banks tightening lending restrictions
  • Interest rates predicted to move up in the near term

But if we look a little deeper into Victoria specifically, there is a lot to be excited about moving into 2019.

As our population continues to grow, so too does the demand for infrastructure that will only continue for a number of years. Plans for eight mini CBD’s throughout Melbourne’s outer suburbs, high-rise residential and hotel developments like the Sapphire by the Gardens and Shangri-La and new rail lines are just some of the projects that will see a demand for labour well into 2025.

Additionally, the state government spend across education, health and prisons is positive and we are close to full employment in the sectors we recruit for; and not to forget, interest rates are currently at historically low levels.

So in actual fact, this is one of the strongest sectors for jobs moving forward, and now is  a great time to reaching for new career heights and challenges.
